Within the deep dark of silent reverence
silver clouds arise
luminous mountains lit from below.
Halogen sunlight
brazenly revealing mangled steel, twisted, snarled-
brilliant bits of glass, glitter
tempting delight
hidden in the massive, tumbled, beams
thousands await.
Already home
time slows and changes
never the same
our watches keeping us,
showing us, seconds ticking by
steady, soft, slow
paces stopped, ever remembered
Days count forward now
since the second we heard.
faces burned in our memory
people, places, common things, suddenly
important
where were you?
ageless promises kept
One generous heart, beating
the pulse rapid, steady
this country, America
She is beautiful, kind, strong
She will survive.
God Bless Her.
wrapped in love we find ourselves
neighbors new and old
suddenly a country rediscovered,
hand in hand,
hearts cradle hearts
sharing desperation, compassion.
remembering love
all our hearts torn
mended as fast as they rip with hasty patches
quick uneven stitches tie them up with resolve
no smooth perfection found
just held together with joy and sorrow both
learning the depth of pain
stretching to remember
and filling more fully with hope
infinite hope.
